Beau and the Waterlilies

I have been wanting for ages to create a Dog poem box. I am very much a dog person. I was brought up with dogs, and have had three dogs myself over the years - a springerxcollie, a full springer, and a springerxcocker. You can probably detect a theme here!

However, I'd been stuck for ages finding a suitable poem. It had to be out of copyright. But the vast majority of older poems were either about dead dogs, or dogs faithful to dead people, or dogs killing things, or were very, very, very long and difficult to adapt to my format.

Finally I found this poem about a spaniel called Beau, who fetches his owner some flowers. Nobody dies!

And the dog in my illustration? He looks very like my own springer Lucy, who also loved gambolling in shallow water, chasing birds, and playing fetch.
